Reporting Services 2014 -reports in Reporting Services 2019

hello, we are planning to update sql server 2014 + reporting services to sql server 2019 + reporting services. both products will be updated. i've been browsing the articles on the matter here in q&a, but i still have a few questions. we're using visual studio 2012 report editor to author the reports running on current rs 2014. can i keep using the visual studio 2012 to author the reports for rs 2019 as well or should i upgrade to visual studio 2019, for example?

Installing reporting service role

i am adding the reporting services point to a current branch primary server. the primary uses an sql server 2019 instance located on a windows server 2022 core host. what is the convention for this layout, should sql reporting services be installed on the primary server (which already has iis), or on the database server (which does not seem to be optimal)?

Reporting Services Portal

let me start by saying that i am a report writer and not a sp admin or sql server admin or anything like that, so some of what i ask or say may seem like sheer ignorance. please forgive. we are currently moving all of our ssrs reports from a sp integrated installation to a native installation. we have hundreds of reports and the number is growing all the time. in sp mode, the list that is created can be filtered and sorted, i can create my own views and tailor what i see to suit my needs for managing my many reports. in native mode, there is nothing like that. it is just one giant list. is that really the best that we can do?
